Since moving to Canada 5 years ago, Jay Atwill has been
steadily gaining respect on the scene as a dynamic
singer/songwriter, guitarist, arranger & producer. His qualities
were quickly recognised by Montreal singer Coral Egan, who
recruited Jay’s band as her touring musicians. She subsequently
appointed Jay as Co-Writer & Arranger for her new album
’Magnify’ to be released in August 2007 on Justin Time Records.
Recently Jay has also been producing an album of balkan gypsie
music -with a twist- for Juno award winning ensemble, Lubo
Alexandrov’s ‘Kaba Horo’. Running parallel to his various
collaborations, Jay Atwill and his band have been carving out a
good live reputation with festival and club dates in Montreal
and Toronto. Highlights include concerts at the Montréal Jazz
Festival. Jay and his band are currently preparing a full length
album which is planned for release in fall 2007. Jay is an
accomplished guitarist with a rich toned voice, sounding as
rough and smooth as the sands of Australia’s south east coast
where he was raised. Jay’s songs communicate a vivid message,
aimed directly at the heart and soul of humanity. His music is
both sophisticated and organic, always with an amazing sense of
groove and harmony. To enrich his sound, Jay has enlisted a band
of exceptional musicians. Drummer Martin Auguste, who has
previously worked with Charles Papasoff, Kenny Wheeler, Karen
Young and the Jefferson Grant Quintet to name a few. Martin’s
creativity and openness have earned him a permanent place in
Jay’s band. Bulgarian Bassist Georgi Stankov is very much in
demand in the world music circuit, playing with Kaba Horo,
Labess, Les Gitans de Sarajevo etc. He is proud to confess that
he is in his element when playing with Jay. Keyboardist Paul
Shrofel also plays with jazz artists such as Sophie Millman, Sam
Blais & Niki Yanofsky, Paul is a key member of the Jay Atwill
Band and a phenomenal musician.Perhaps you have already had the
good fortune to experience the Jay Atwill Band first hand. If

PEARLS
The trombone is under the bed
The blues are all in your head
The fuse is sizzling toward the powder
The pearls roll in their shells
The larks nest in the bells
Night sleeps in the arms of the morning after
Spend your days amazed my baby Happylujah child
A heartbeat and vision floods the mind
The actions that serve to define your passion
Before gender, race or fashion
A breath before a note is played
The footprints before the tracks were laid
No words minced let us not be swayed by maybe
The borders are guarded
The poisons are labelled
The frontiers are inside
As they’ll ever be
Ready as we’ll ever be
All across the sky the stars are naked
Baby don’t ask why
Part of natures plan these rights are sacred
Lets be daring
Let us not be shy
Unearth your kindness
Men drown in a full cup
People wise up
The borders are guarded
The poisons are labelled
The frontiers are inside
Ready as we’ll ever be
Spend your days amazed my babe
Halellujah
Happiness to ya

SENSE
Eatin’ my catch
Shooin’ the gulls away
Miles from any town
Soakin’ the rays
The sting of the ocean spray
Back on sacred ground
I’m letting nature take me whole
Vindicated
The unruly aspects of my soul
Celebrated
Was all I thought
Inconsequential
Was all I sought
Unessential
So many have a hard time believing that we’re falling
Here comes the ground
Insulated by these four walls you don’t always hear the calling
Gets hard to decipher the meaning
It’s takin through ya
Tell me what you’re dreaming
More sense than this
More sense
Lighter than this
More choice than this
Less want
Less talking
More voice

WORSHIP THE SUN
While the sun, while the sun is burning
Journey’s what if not for learning
Can’t spend too long in the shade
Headlines set minds a reelin’
I aint buyin’ what you’re dealin’
Catch the news before it hits the page
I worship the sun
Call me old fashioned
The answer’s but a shadow of the question
I worship the sun
Plant the bell
Plant the mercy bell
Man is living way beyond the pale
Don’t wait for wisdom to prevail
Off the wall, Wall flower
Let me see you shake those precious goods
Can’t keep that bomb beneath the hood
I worship the sun
Call me old fashioned
The answers but a shadow of the question…
Planets crash…
(While the sun is burning)
Dinosaurs hatch…
(while the sun is burning)
Ant hills rise…
(while the sun, while the sun is burning)
Towers collapse…
(while the sun, while the sun)
Palms are read…
(While the sun the sun is burning)
Languages dead…
(while the sun, while the sun)
Mouths are fed…
(While the sun, while the sun is burning)
Skins are shed…
